Model answer (Band 8-9)

Part 1

Original model answer written by our team for practice — not an official IELTS answer.

1. What kind of food do you like to eat?

I’m quite adventurous with food, but if I had to choose, I’d say I’m a big fan of Asian cuisine, especially Thai and Japanese dishes. I love anything with fresh ingredients, bold flavours and a bit of spice. At the same time, I’ve got a soft spot for simple comfort food, like a good bowl of pasta or homemade soup.

2. Do you enjoy cooking? Why or why not?

Yes, I do enjoy cooking, although I wouldn’t call myself a professional or anything. For me, it’s a way to unwind after a long day and be a bit creative. I like trying out new recipes I find online and tweaking them to suit my taste. The only thing I’m not keen on is the pile of dirty dishes afterwards.

3. Who usually does the cooking in your home?

It’s pretty much a shared responsibility in my home. I tend to cook on weekdays because my schedule’s a bit more flexible, and my family members take over at the weekend. We sometimes cook together as well, which turns it into a kind of social activity rather than just a chore. It keeps things fair and a bit more fun.

4. Do you prefer eating at home or eating out?

I’d say I generally prefer eating at home, mainly because it’s healthier and more economical. I can control exactly what goes into my food, and there’s a cosy atmosphere that you don’t always get in restaurants. That said, I do enjoy eating out occasionally, especially for special occasions or when I want to try something I can’t easily make myself.
