Model answer (Band 8-9)

Part 1

Original model answer written by our team for practice — not an official IELTS answer.

1. Where is your hometown?

My hometown’s a small coastal city in the north of my country, about an hour’s drive from the capital. It’s tucked between some low mountains and the sea, so it feels quite sheltered. It’s not a famous tourist spot or anything, but people from nearby cities often come for the beaches and the fresh seafood at the weekend.

2. What is your hometown like?

It’s a fairly quiet place, to be honest, with a really relaxed pace of life. The city centre is quite compact, with old-fashioned shops and a big market where everyone seems to know each other. What I like most is the waterfront promenade; in the evening it comes alive with families walking, kids on bikes, and street food stalls.

3. Do you like living there? Why or why not?

Overall, I do like living there, mainly because it feels safe and friendly. I can walk around at night without worrying, and people are generally polite and helpful. On the downside, it can be a bit dull for young people, since there aren’t many cultural events or trendy cafés, but whenever I’m away, I still miss the sea breeze and the sense of community.

4. What kind of home do you live in at the moment?

Right now I live in a small apartment in a fairly modern building near the city centre. It’s not huge, just a one-bedroom place, but it’s bright and comfortable, with big windows and a tiny balcony. The best thing is the location; I can walk to work in ten minutes, and there’s a supermarket and a park practically on my doorstep.
