Model answer (Band 8-9)

Part 1

Original model answer written by our team for practice — not an official IELTS answer.

1. How many hours do you usually sleep each night?

On a typical night I sleep around seven hours, which for me is just about right. If I dip below six, I’m noticeably groggy the next morning and it takes ages to properly wake up. At the weekend, though, I tend to indulge in closer to eight hours, especially if the week’s been hectic or particularly stressful.

2. Do you ever take naps during the day?

Every now and then I do, but it’s not a regular habit. If I’ve had a late night or I’m recovering from a cold, I might lie down for a quick 20-minute power nap in the afternoon. Any longer than that and I wake up feeling disoriented, so I try to avoid long daytime naps.

3. Do you think you get enough sleep?

Most of the time I’d say I do, but it really depends on my workload. During busy periods, I stay up later than I should, then I feel drained and a bit irritable the following day. When I manage to stick to a consistent bedtime, I’m much more alert and productive, so I’m trying to prioritise sleep more.

4. What do you usually do before you go to bed?

Before I go to bed, I follow a fairly simple routine to wind down. I usually make a cup of herbal tea, dim the lights, and read a few chapters of a novel. I also put my phone on silent and leave it across the room, because if I start scrolling, I completely lose track of time and go to sleep far too late.
