Describe a place you would like to visit in the future.

One place I’d really love to visit in the future is Kyoto, in Japan. It’s the old imperial capital, a couple of hours by train from Tokyo, and it’s famous for its temples, traditional wooden houses and those delicate cherry blossoms in spring. I’ve never been to Japan at all, so for me Kyoto kind of represents the essence of the country.

I first heard about it years ago from a travel documentary, actually. The presenter was walking through these incredibly narrow streets lined with lanterns, and there was this almost magical scene of orange gates at Fushimi Inari Shrine stretching up the hillside. After that, I started noticing Kyoto everywhere – in films, in friends’ photos on social media, and even in a novel I read that was set there.

If I ever get the chance to go, the first thing I’d do is just wander around the old districts, like Gion, and soak up the atmosphere. I’d definitely visit some of the famous temples and gardens, maybe try a traditional tea ceremony, and sample proper Japanese food, not the watered-down versions we usually get. I’d also love to rent a bicycle and explore some quieter neighbourhoods away from the typical tourist spots.

The reason I’d like to visit Kyoto so much is that it seems to offer a rare combination of history, natural beauty and calm. My everyday life can feel pretty hectic and noisy, so the idea of being in a place where time appears to slow down is really appealing. I also think immersing myself in a completely different culture would broaden my horizons and maybe even change the way I see my own life when I come back.
