So it’s less that traditions vanish outright and more that they evolve, sometimes in ways that feel a bit commercial but still keep the core identity alive.

Festivals play a crucial role in building social cohesion. They give people from different backgrounds a chance to come together in a relaxed setting, which reduces prejudice and strengthens neighbourhood ties. On a practical level, when residents prepare decorations, food or performances collectively, they learn to cooperate and trust each other. In that sense, a well-run festival can do more for community spirit than any official policy or slogan.
