Moreover, early exposure to paid work can tempt some students to prioritise short-term income over long-term qualifications, leading them to skip classes or even drop out of school to work full-time.

Despite these risks, part-time work can offer significant educational and personal benefits. Firstly, employment teaches practical skills that schools often neglect, such as punctuality, communication with customers, teamwork and basic financial management. A teenager who works in a café, for example, learns to handle money, resolve complaints and cooperate under pressure, all of which are highly valued in the labour market. Secondly, earning their own income can foster independence and a stronger sense of responsibility, as young people contribute to their expenses rather than relying entirely on parents.
