Model answer (Band 8-9)
Part 3Original model answer written by our team for practice — not an official IELTS answer.
1. How has technology changed the way people work over the past twenty years?
Over the last two decades, technology has fundamentally reshaped the workplace. Nowadays, many people can work remotely, which has blurred the boundary between office and home life. Communication’s become instant and global, so teams can collaborate across time zones with relative ease. On the downside, there’s an expectation of being constantly available, which can increase stress and make it harder to fully switch off.
2. Do you think people rely too heavily on technology in their daily lives?
To be honest, in many societies we’ve become a bit over-dependent on technology. We outsource basic tasks, like remembering phone numbers or navigating around our own cities, to our devices. That convenience is great, but it can erode practical skills and reduce face-to-face interaction. I suppose the key issue is balance: using technology as a tool, rather than letting it dictate our routines and priorities.
3. What are the risks of children spending too much time using devices?
There are several potential risks when children overuse digital devices. Physically, they may develop poor posture and sleep problems, especially if they’re exposed to screens late at night. Psychologically, excessive screen time can shorten their attention span and make real-life activities seem less stimulating. What worries me most is social development; if they’re glued to screens, they might struggle to read body language or build meaningful relationships offline.
4. How might artificial intelligence affect employment in the future?
Artificial intelligence is likely to transform employment rather than simply destroy jobs. Routine, repetitive roles will probably be automated, which could displace some workers in the short term. However, new positions will emerge in areas like data analysis, AI ethics and human–machine collaboration. The crucial challenge for governments and individuals is to invest in retraining so the workforce can adapt to these rapid technological shifts.
