So I’d like to talk about my colleague, Daniel, who made me laugh so much recently that I actually had tears in my eyes. He’s the kind of person who’s always fairly cheerful, but this particular incident just took things to another level.

It happened last Friday during a team meeting at the office. We were all exhausted, going through this long, slightly boring presentation, and the mood was really flat. Our manager asked Daniel to share his screen to show a graph, but instead of the graph, his desktop wallpaper popped up on the big projector. It was a ridiculously dramatic photo of a cat wearing sunglasses, riding a tiny toy skateboard, with the words “Senior Productivity Consultant” written underneath.

For a second there was total silence, and then everyone just burst out laughing. Daniel tried to fix it in a panic, but he kept clicking random windows, accidentally opening this silly meme folder he’d titled “Important Corporate Documents”. Each picture that flashed up was more absurd than the last, and the harder he tried to be serious, the funnier it became.

We were in the main conference room at work, which usually feels quite formal and tense. I think that contrast made it twice as hilarious. I found it so funny partly because it was completely unexpected, and partly because Daniel just leaned into the embarrassment and started joking about it himself. To be honest, it broke the ice perfectly, and for the rest of the meeting everyone was much more relaxed and in a good mood.
