Laura: Hello, Cornerstone Café, Laura speaking.
Chloe: Hi, I saw your advert for a part-time weekend job in the window, and I'd like to apply, please.
Laura: Great, thanks for calling. Let me take a few details and set up an interview. Could I have your full name?
Chloe: Yes, it's Chloe Bennett.
Laura: And how do you spell the surname?
Chloe: It's B-E-N-N-E-T-T. Bennett. Two Ns, two Ts.
Laura: Perfect, thank you. And a phone number I can reach you on?
Chloe: It's oh-seven-five-three-three, four-one-nine, seven-eight-two.
Laura: Let me read that back — oh-seven-five-three-three, four-one-nine, seven-eight-two. Right?
Chloe: That's it.
Laura: Now, have you done any similar work before?
Chloe: Yes, I worked in a bakery for about a year, mostly serving customers and using the till. So I've got some experience with the coffee machine too.
Laura: That's really useful. The job is Saturdays and Sundays, from eight in the morning until two in the afternoon. The pay is eleven pounds fifty an hour, and you'd get a free lunch on shift.
Chloe: That sounds great. I can definitely do both weekend days.
Laura: Wonderful. Now, we'd need you to start fairly soon. When could you begin?
Chloe: I could start straight away — well, actually, I'm away next week, so the following weekend would be better. That would be the fourteenth.
Laura: The fourteenth is fine. Let's get you in for an interview first, though. Could you come in this Thursday at half past four?
Chloe: Thursday at half past four, yes, that works.
Laura: Lovely. When you come, please bring a form of ID and, if you can, the name of someone who can give you a reference — a previous manager, ideally, not a family member.
Chloe: No problem, I'll bring my passport and my old manager's details.
Laura: Perfect. Just so you can find us, we're the café on the corner of King Street, right opposite the post office. See you Thursday, Chloe.
Chloe: Great, I know exactly where you mean. Is there anything I should know about the uniform, or what to wear?
Laura: We'll give you a branded apron and a T-shirt on your first day, so you don't need to buy anything. Just wear comfortable dark trousers and non-slip shoes, as the floor can get a bit wet behind the counter. And we ask staff to tie long hair back for hygiene.
Chloe: That's all fine. Will the interview involve any kind of trial, or is it just a chat?
Laura: It's mostly a chat, but I might ask you to make a couple of coffees on the machine, just so I can see how you get on. Nothing to worry about — I'll talk you through it. It usually takes about twenty minutes altogether.
Chloe: Perfect, that sounds fine. Brilliant. Thank you so much, Laura. See you Thursday.
