Reading Passage

Text 1 — Job advertisement: Delivery drivers wanted

AThe role. Brightpath Couriers is recruiting part-time and full-time delivery drivers. You will deliver parcels across the city in a company van, completing on average 80 drops a day and recording each delivery with a handheld scanner. A smart uniform is provided.

BWhat we are looking for. Applicants must hold a full, clean driving licence and must have held it for at least two years. For insurance reasons, drivers must be aged 21 or over. You will need a good level of spoken English and a reasonable standard of fitness, as some parcels weigh up to 20 kg. Previous delivery experience is welcome but not essential — full training is given.

CPay and benefits. Pay starts at £13.20 an hour, rising to £13.80 after six months, and is paid weekly. Benefits include 28 days' holiday (including public holidays), a company pension scheme, and plenty of extra overtime during the November and December peak season.

Text 2 — New driver induction checklist

DBefore your first day. Email a photograph of your driving licence to the recruitment team, complete the online safety course (this takes about 90 minutes), and read the driver handbook.

EDay one. Report to the depot at 8.00 a.m. and ask for the duty manager. Bring proof of address and your bank details. You will be fitted for your uniform and issued with a scanner and a fuel card — you must sign for both.

FYour first week. For the first three days you will accompany an experienced driver, known as your 'buddy'. On day five you will take an assessed drive with a trainer, followed by a route-knowledge quiz. You must score at least 80% on the quiz; anyone who does not may retake it once after further training.

GOngoing requirements. Report any driving penalty, such as points or a fine, to your manager within 48 hours. Complete the monthly vehicle check and record it in the driver app. An eyesight test is required every year and is paid for by the company.
